HARTFORD CITY, IN-
William Lewis “Bill” Hiday, 88, passed away Monday, January 2, 2023 at IUHealth Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie.
A life resident of Blackford County, he was born July 23, 1934 to Landis H. and Ruby N. (Willmann) Hiday. He graduated from Montpelier High School, class of 1953.
On June 10, 1956, he married Marcia Joretta “Jo” Armstrong in Montpelier. They had celebrated sixty-three years of marriage, when she passed away, October 18, 2019. Bill and Jo loved to garden and travel, having toured many countries over the years. Spending time with the grandchildren was their passion, and they were lovingly named Oma and Opa by the grandkids.
Bill served his country in the United States Army, being honorably discharged in 1959.
A rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for many years, Bill also farmed and was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hartford City.
He leaves behind two sons: Todd (Melissa) Hiday of New Castle and Tim Hiday of Lafayette. One brother, Rex (Janice) Hiday of Kentucky. Six grandchildren: Andrew Hiday (Becky) of Indianapolis, IN, Shannon Hiday-McKibben (Geoff) of Dublin, Ireland, Paige Beach (Harrison) of Cartersville, GA, Palmer Hiday (Lexxi) of Lafayette, IN, Payton Hiday of Indianapolis, IN, and Parker Hiday of Missoula, Montana.
In addition to his wife, Jo and his parents, a daughter-in-law, Ellen Hiday also precedes him into eternal rest.
Services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 308 S. Monroe St., Hartford City at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, 2023 with Pastor Sharilyn Wendt presiding. Burial will follow at the Hartford City Cemetery with military rites by the U.S. Army and the Delaware County Veterans Organization.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday, from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service at 11:00.
