Carolyn Sue Rinker, 83, died on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at her home with her family at her side.
Sue was born on October 18, 1939 at home in Trenton, Indiana to Francis Enochs and Evelyn (Reed) Smith. She graduated from Montpelier High School in 1957 and married Clifford Rinker on June 30, 1957 at Zion Lutheran Church. Together they would make their home outside of Hartford City where they worked their farm.
She was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hartford City where she taught Sunday School and vacation bible school for many years. Sue loved flowers, to garden, sew, paint and can vegetables but most of all, visits from her grandchildren were the highlight of her day.
She is survived by her children: Jeffery (Deanna) Rinker, Montpelier, and Clifton (Lisa) Rinker, Hartford City, daughters, Susanna Pace and Debbie (Eric) Jones, both of Hartford City; grandchildren, JW Rinker (Kati), Kurtis Rinker (Kasey), Dillon Rinker (Bailey), Colt Pace (Nicole), Casey Bolling (John), Levi Jones (Ashley), Emily Jones, Trent Jones (Megan), Cameron Rinker and Kelli Rinker; great-grandchildren, Oden, Thomas, Aubrey, Addison, Brantley, Kallie, Carson, Cora, Hazel, Harper, Cailynn and Kane; twin-sisters, Judy Hefflefinger (Paul Gail) and Joy Slentz (Wilson); as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her husband Clifford Rinker; stepdad, George C. Smith; sister, Shirley June Rusher; brother, Larry Enochs and a nephew, Gary Dean Slentz.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 3, 2023 at Waters Funeral Home, 501 W Washington St., Hartford City, IN 47348 with Pastor Sherilyn Wendt officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, east of Hartford City.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, and after 12:00 Noon, Monday prior to services.
