RICHARD LECHIEN Obituary

Dick was a devoted and caring husband to his wife, Sue (Hoggatt) Lechien (from Upland), whom he married April 28, 1956 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hartford City. He was a graduate of Hartford City High School in 1952 and worked at 3M Company as a shift supervisor for 34 years, retiring in 1991.
In his retirement years, he and Sue enjoyed wintering at North Fort Myers, Florida. He was very active on many park committees while there.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 7 in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Father Dave Newton officiating. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Blackford County 4-H.
Richard M. “Dick” Lechien, 78, lifelong resident of Blackford County, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2013.
He was born in Blackford County to Arthur and Doris (Lucas) Lechien on November 4, 1934. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Carol Lechien Irwin Helvie, and a daughter-in-law, Valerie (Cross) Lechien.
Dick was a devoted and caring husband to his wife, Sue (Hoggatt) Lechien (from Upland), whom he married April 28, 1956 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hartford City. He was a graduate of Hartford City High School in 1952 and worked at 3M Company as a shift supervisor for 34 years, retiring in 1991.
He was very active in community service organizations that his children were involved with. He coached Pee Wee Football and Little League Baseball, was on many 4-H committees, member and past president of Blackford County Fair Board, and superintendent of the sheep department at the fair for over 30 years. Dick and Sue enjoyed playing bingo at the Montpelier Lions Club where they have been members for 10 years. He also played some golf and worked at wood carving.
In his retirement years, he and Sue enjoyed wintering at North Fort Myers, Florida. He was very active on many park committees while there.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Sue; sons, Mark (Angela), Eaton, Marty (Elaine), Hartford City, Monty (Kris), Albany; daughter, Marcy (Matt) McCormack, Bridgeville, PA., and 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 7 in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Father Dave Newton officiating. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery.
Friends may call at Waters Funeral Home from2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 6 and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
