Mary Esther Wood

Hartford City, IN Mary Esther Wood, 81, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2010, in Miller's Merry Manor. The daughter of Albert Vernon and Wilda Cynthia (Lanning) Wood, she was born May 5, 1928 in Hartford City and was a life resident of this community. She was a 1947 graduate of Hartford City High School. Mary Esther worked at the Citizens State Bank (now First Financial) for over 46 years, retiring December 31, 1993 after holding many positions at the bank. She was a member and past president of Delta Theta Tau Sorority (Nu Chapter), National Association of Bank Women, former member of Business and Professional Women, and had been treasurer and a director of Dollars for Scholars. Surviving are: two cousins, Carl (Ruth) Townsend, Cedar Ridge, Colorado and Richard Wilson, Ohio; special friends and caregivers, Lee and Leroy Huckleberry and Maxie and Bill Malott, all of Hartford City. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an aunt, Mary Townsend. Funeral services will be at 11a.m. Thursday, February 4, 2010 in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Rev. Lloyd Hall officiating. Private burial will follow in the Hartford City Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, February 3 and 9-11 Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to: Blackford Community Foundation, or Family Hospice of Berne.
