Martha J. Swoveland

HARTFORD CITY, IN Martha J. Swoveland, 86, widow of former Hartford City Mayor Rex Swoveland, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2010 in Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie. She was born in Hartford City on March 2, 1923, the daughter of Marion and Edna (Kline) Thomas. She was a 1941 graduate of Hartford City High School. A life resident of Hartford City, she married Rex Swoveland on May 28, 1942 in Hartford City. His death occurred on July 31, 1990. . Surviving are: a daughter, Susy (Fred) Tobey, Hartford City; 2 sons, Paul (Laura) Swoveland, Charlotte, NC, and Tim Swoveland, Fort Wayne; a sister, Nancy Willmann, Hartford City; 6 grandchildren, Lynne Dee, Marc, Matt, Jennifer, Angie, and Max; also several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 2 brothers, Robert and William Thomas and a sister, Becky Smith. At Martha’s request, services will be for the family only. Burial will be made in Gardens of Memory, Muncie. Arrangements have been entrusted to Waters Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
