LEROY CHENEY Obituary

LeRoy Earl “Si” Cheney, 95, died Thursday morning, June 2, in I. U. Health Blackford Community Hospital. He was born in Hartford City on January 1, 1916 to L. Ernest and Ethel (McDermit) Cheney. Si graduated from Hartford City High School in 1934 and married Georgia Shreve on October 14, 1940 in Anderson. Her death occurred on March 18, 1999. A veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in WW II, he was a member of Amvets #23, American Legion Post #159, Elks Lodge #625 and the Moose Lodge. Si was employed at Delco Remy, Anderson, for 44 years, retiring in 1986. He was an avid euchre player, a sports fan (especially the Cubs) and was interested in politics. Survivors include: a son, Lee Cheney, Hartford City; a daughter, Jane Ann Morrical, Rensselaer; 3 grandchildren, Denise Mills, Laura Morrical and Adam Morrical; 3 great-grandchildren, Alishia Pugh, Colby Blair and Alex Mills; a great-great-grandchild, Kendall Pugh; 2 sisters, Lillian Latham, New Braunfels, Texas, and Jackie Howard, Hartford City. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter, Margret, 2 brothers, Lawrence “Pete” Cheney and James Cheney, and a sister, Lois Tatman. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 7 in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City, with Rev. Lloyd Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery with military graveside rites. Friends may call from 5 – 7 p.m. Monday, June 6 and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at Waters Funeral Home.
