HARTFORD CITY, IN Lawrence J. Stroup, 94, passed away Wednesday, April 6 in Miller’s Merry Manor. A native of Blackford County, he was born on January 11, 1917 to Lawrence H. and Clara B. (Marshall) Stroup. He attended Hartford City Schools and married Cecilia. R. Pursley in Hartford City on February 1, 1947. Mr. Stroup worked for St. Joe Paper Company for many years, retiring in 1982. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of WW II and was a 45 year member of the American Legion. Lawrence was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Cecilia R.; two daughters, Jenny A. Tsakkos, Bluffton and Kay Fernandez, Naples, FL; one son, Patrick Stroup, Indianapolis; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Elizabeth, a son, David, two brothers, James and Glen and a sister, Hazel Gill. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Dave Newton at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 9 in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 209 S. Spring St., Hartford City. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery with military graveside rites. Friends may call at Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City from 4-7 p.m. Friday, April 8. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
