HARTFORD CITY, IN—
Loving husband, father and grandfather, Harold W. Schuhmacher, 84, passed away on Thursday evening, March 6, 2025 at Envive Nursing Home.
Born in Blackford County on July 6, 1940, he was the son of the now late Walter G. Schuhmacher and Frances C. (Aulbach) Schuhmacher.
A graduate of Hartford City High School and of Purdue Agriculture School, he married Carolyn A. (Rees) Schuhmacher on August 6, 1966. Together, they celebrated fifty-eight years of marriage.
A lifelong resident of Blackford County, in Licking Township, he spent his youth working on his family’s farm, and was a 10 year 4-H member. He worked as a Funks G. Seed salesman for thirty years, and at the 3M Paper Mill for ten years. In 1959, he established Schuhmacher Farms, LLC.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn A. Schuhmacher; two sons, Stephen (Steve) H. Schuhmacher and Brian M. Schuhmacher; daughter, Patricia (Pat) L. (Schuhmacher) Baird; ten grandchildren: Kathleen Schuhmacher, Jackson (Jack) Schuhmacher, Nicholas (Nick) Schuhmacher, Anne Marie (Annie) Schuhmacher, Matthew (Matt) Schuhmacher, Alexis (Lexi) Schuhmacher, Timothy (Tim) Schuhmacher, Brittani Schuhmacher, Sara (Whitesell) Miller, Madeline (Maddie) Schuhmacher, Mary Baird and one great-grandchild, Robert Schuhmacher. Also, one sister, Ruth Ann (Schuhmacher) Clawson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death, by his son, Richard A. Schuhmacher on June 1, 1974.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2025 in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 209 S. Spring St., Hartford City, with Father Kevin Hurley as celebrant. Burial will be in the Gardens of Memory, Muncie, following the funeral mass.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 11th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., in the Waters Funeral Home, Hartford City. Father Hurley will begin at 4:00 p.m. with the rosary being recited for Harold.
