GEORGE W. ADKINS SR.

GEORGE W. ADKINS, SR. HARTFORD CITY, IN George W. Adkins, Sr., 76, passed away November 11, 2009 at his residence. The son of John and Mary (Coons) Adkins, he was born November 5, 1933 in Hartford City. He married Maxine Hall in Carter County, Kentucky on May 16, 1950. George worked at Sinclair Glass retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Sunday Fellowship. George enjoyed working with horses and was manager of the Rocking Horse Stables. Survivors include: his wife, Maxine; 3 daughters, Kathie Coulter, Montpelier, Geral (Larry) Berry and Janet (Jim) Lytle, both of Hartford City; 2 sons, George W. (Julie) Adkins, Jr., Dunkirk and John E. (Michelle) Adkins, Middletown, FL; a sister, Thelma Harter, Hartford City; 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Ed, Billy and Marvin Adkins, 6 sisters, Dorothy Studebaker, Lois Whitehurst, Irene Moorman, Alpha Hunt, Ethel Mae Slentz and Elizabeth Norton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 14 in the Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City with Pastors Larry Berry and Joe Thornburgh, grandsons of Mr. Adkins, officiating. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from4-8 p.m. Friday, November 13 and after 1 p.m. Saturday.
