Obituary

Hartford City-

Florence Ellen Kellogg, 104, of Hartford City, Indiana passed away on December 25, 2022, at Christian Care in Bluffton, Indiana.

She was born April 5, 1918 in Apollo, Pennsylvania to the late John and Lura (Wylie) Young. When she was young, the family moved to north Louisiana where she lived until she married. She graduated from Louisiana State University and was a teacher in both Louisiana and Indiana, teaching locally at Adams Central many years as well as a substitute teacher at Norwell.

On January 1, 1944 she married Hervey Kellogg who proceeded her in death in 1978. She truly cherished her family and always looked forward to family gatherings every two or three months.

She enjoyed playing the piano, reading, crocheting, growing flowers, watching birds, and people watching. She was a fantastic storyteller and loved visiting with her many friends. She loved running into students she had taught and learning where life had led them.

She was an active member of the Hartford City Presbyterian Church where she had served as an elder and deacon. She also hosted a weekly Bible study in her home for over 30 years. She was an honorary life member and past president of the Research Club, a member of the Blackford County Historical Society and the Indiana Association of Retired Teachers. She felt you needed a purpose in life and to that end she visited friends in nursing homes up into her late 90s, took food to friends who were ill, drove friends who could no longer drive, to doctor appointments and volunteered to help at Red Cross Blood drives.

She will be sadly missed by her twin daughters Sharon (Elmo) Sherman of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; Karen (Lin) Harrold of Bluffton, Indiana; a son Joseph (Sandy) Kellogg of Rossville, Indiana; granddaughter Sandra (Andy) Garber of Poneto, Indiana; grandson Chris (Amy) Harrold, Crawford, Texas; Eric Kellogg, Rossville, Indiana; Ben (Andrea) Kellogg, Rossville, Indiana; nine great-grandchildren; 4 great, great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death in addition to her husband Hervey, by stillborn twins Richard Phillip and John Hervey, and her great granddaughter Braylie Kellogg. Also, by her parents, her step mother Ruth Artman Young, her brother Tom and wife Doris Young, her sister Lois and husband Oren Robertson.
