HARTFORD CITY, IN—
David Paul Jones died on September 11, 2023 at 1:50 a.m. at his home, surrounded by his family. David was born August 24, 1937 in Blackford County. He graduated from Roll High School in 1955 and then married Sarah Lou (Tritle) Jones on September 8, 1957. David died just three days after their 66th Wedding Anniversary.
David was born on his parent’s farm and lived all of his adult life on his great grandparent’s farm, now called Jones Family Farms, Inc., northwest of Hartford City. After graduation, he went to work at Overhead Door at the lowest level. When he quit after 28 years, he had worked his way up to Assistant Plant Manager.
David has been farming his whole life with his sons, Mike and Tom as well as his grandson, William. His only hobby was farming and he was interested in it until the end of his life.
David has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hartford City for more than 60 years. While there he sang in the choir for more than 20 years, served as deacon, elder as well as trustee.
Surviving are his wife Sarah Lou, and their two sons, Michael David Jones – special friend, Tammy Newman and Thomas Paul (Patricia) Jones. His grandchildren are: William David (Kirstin) Jones, Patricia Michelle (Jared) Sprong, Rachel Marie (Kelby Burgess) Banter, Katherine Elaine (Nate) Baughey and Teara (Dustin Hammitt) Newman. David’s great grandchildren are: Tripp Jaxon Banter, Emerson Louise Banter, Wyatt Thomas Baughey, Avery Kate Baughey, Lincoln David Ray Jones, Isabella Grace Sprong, Charlotte Elizabeth Arlene Sprong, Zadie Lynn Skye Newman and Colt Lee Hammitt; nephews: Stephen (Nancy) Pierce, Brian Jay (Mary) Ross and niece Laura Ann (Steve) Coons as well as several great nieces and nephews.
Preceding David in death were his parents Thelma and Paul J. Jones, in-laws Mabel and Roy Tritle, grandson David Andrew Jones, sister Kathleen (Kenny) Ross, their son Gary Paul Ross; and his sister Clarice Ann (Russell) Pierce.
Arrangements are being made and the funeral will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, with visitation from 5 to 8pm on Friday, September 15th, and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, September 16th before the service. The service will be officiated by Reverend Wes Rediger at 11 a.m. with a meal following.
