Darrell McCammon Obituary

DARRELL L. McCAMMON

HARTFORD CITY, IN—

Darrell L. McCammon, 88, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, February 19, 2022, surrounded by family and friends.

Darrell was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His caring spirit is what set him apart.  It was common for his giving to the Special Olympics, Mayo Clinic, Riley Children’s Hospital and many local charities including the Blackford Community Foundation, Blackford County Schools and Blackford County 4H Club.  His empathy for others was evident throughout his life, even until his last days.

His business acumen showed through the success of over 50 years of McCammon Trucking while at the same time running a successful farm operation, alongside his wife, Pat.  His first concern was always his employees, ensuring even their basic needs were met.  It was common for him to see that they were fed and their children had presents at Christmas time and would always offer a helping hand to someone in need.

Darrell was a member of the Hartford City Rotary Club.  He served thirteen years on the Blackford County School Board and served ten years as a trustee for the former Blackford County Hospital.  Although his wife Pat preferred vacationing somewhere warm, they both spent many winter months in Michigan with the Winter Wanderers Snowmobile Club.

Many vacations taken by Darrell and Pat, whether Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Acapulco or on a cruise line ship, were shared with lifelong friends, Charlie and Orpha Cullen.

He leaves behind six daughters:  Sandra S. (Ken) Huffman, Nancy Knox, Debra J. (Kim) Penrod, Janet Giles, Pamla L. (Chris) Hurley and Annette (Mike) Parejko.  Grandchildren:  Austin Mackey, Justin Mackey, Kyle Mackey, Brandon Parejko, Victoria Parejko, Mark Gaier, Ryan Ingram, Tyler Ingram, Andy Donovan, Joey Donovan, Shelby Doehrman and Sydney Hurley and several great-grandchildren.  One sister, Betty Hoeksema, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Additionally, he leaves behind special friends, Denise Bowser and Janet Coffield, as well as his former son-in-law, Mike Mackey,

He is preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of over 55 years, Patricia Ann “Pat” (Yadon) McCammon on Oct. 13, 2020. His parents, Gettys and Nova (Green) McCammon; three brothers, John McCammon, Murl McCammon and Bill McCammon; one sister, Edna Shadle and a grandson, Mike Gaier.
