HARTFORD CITY, IN—
Charles G. Atkinson, 71, passed away late Wednesday evening, November 15, 2023 in IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, after a valiant battle with lung cancer.
Born in Blackford County, on May 8, 1952, he was one of five children of the late Charles G. and Lottie (Jones) Atkinson, Sr.
A union carpenter by trade, he was employed in the commercial construction industry and was known by many as a skilled craftsman to his trade.
He enjoyed working in his shop, usually with his favorite music playing…he also loved traveling, including the beach, but especially enjoyed family gatherings.
He leaves behind his wife of eighteen years, Richael D. (Alter) Warner-Atkinson; his children: Andrew (Tara) Atkinson, Sara (Tim) Turner, Shayna (Josh) Slusher and Tyler (Courtney) Atkinson. Two step-daughters: Dusty Thornburgh and Mandy Davidson. One brother, Jeff (Misty) Atkinson; three sisters: Nicki Grider, Patti (Rodney) Hayden and Deb (Mike) Perry. Eighteen grandchildren: Mason, Kennedi, Ainsley, Todd, Nick, Hunter, Janelle, Raelyn, Mason, Chloe, Bennett, Tessa, Kenzi, Judd, Baylor, Jentry, Garrison and Katelynn, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Janelle A. (Chaney) Atkinson in 2004.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 20th at Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City. Graveside service and burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Hartford City Cemetery.
