Clayton I. Ford, 87, passed away Monday, June 30, 2014, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Hartford City on February 25, 1927 to Ivor and Dorothy (Emshwiller) Ford and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1945. After graduation, Clayton served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. On June 2, 1946 he married Barbara McVicker. Clayton farmed in Portland and Montpelier for many years before his employment at Dana Corporation, Marion. They moved to Hartford City in 1988 and Clayton retired in 1992. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hartford City. Survivors are children, Dean (Claudia) Ford, Noblesville; Tracy (Janet) Ford, Louisville, KY; Nancy Richardson, Muncie; Susan (Ken) Thieme, Fort Wayne; Kevin Ford, Houston, TX ; daughter-in-law, Joyce Ford, Hartford City; 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; brother, Francis (Margie) Ford, Hartford City; sister, Jondajane Hix, Marion and brother-in-law, John (Ann) McCammon. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a daughter, Kathy Denise, a sister, Thanamae McCammon, and son, State Senator David Ford. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 5, in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St. Hartford City with Father Dave Newton officiating. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, July 4 from 2:30 -5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home. A Christian Wake Service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
