Charles J. “Bud” Carll, 82, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010, in Ball Memorial Hospital. The son of Robert and Ethel (Lanning) Carll, he was born March 20, 1927 in Blackford County. On April 17, 1947 he married Carolyn Pogue and lived in Blackford County, later moving to Upland. Bud served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He owned the Chevrolet dealership in Upland from 1958-1962. He also worked for 31 years as a truck driver delivering milk from farms to the dairy. Mr. Carll was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the American Legion, Upland, and had played minor league baseball in North Carolina. Surviving are: one daughter, Kim (James) Puckett, New River, AZ; three grandsons, Silas Barton Carll-Puckett, David Guin Puckett III, and Andrew Paul Puckett; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Anna) Carll, Hartford City; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother, Leo Carll, and two sisters, Mary Alice Bowman and Virginia Lee Carll. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 24 in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 209 S. Spring St., Hartford City with Father Dave Newton as celebrant. Burial will be made at a later date in Park Cemetery, Greenfield. Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City, is handling the arrangements. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be sent to Blackford County Animal Shelter or masses to the church.
