HARTFORD CITY, IN—
Bill L. Cooper, 93, passed away Saturday evening, March 20, 2021, in Miller’s Merry Manor of Hartford City.
Born on October 2, 1927, in Hartford City, he was one of eight children born to Marion W. and Alma (Markin) Cooper and was a graduate of Hartford City High School, class of 1945. On August 10 the same year, he married Sue Hahnert at the parsonage of the E.U.B. (now Trinity U.M.) church.
Bill served his country in the U.S. Navy, during World War II. After his discharge from the Navy, Bill returned to Hartford City, where he was well known throughout the community for fifty-eight years as a General Motors automobile sales representative, beginning with Clapper Buick. Bill faithfully stayed with the same dealership over the years of ownership change. After Clapper Buick, he worked for Crankshaw Motors, Bauer Sales, Rick Cooper Sales and Service, then retired in 2005 from Ken Kunkle GM of Hartford City.
He was a long-time member of the Lions Club and the American Legion.
His family he leaves behind include his wife of sixty-nine years, Sue; two sons: Mark (Penny) Cooper of Hartford City and Chris (fiancée Wendy) of Palm Springs, FLA; his granddaughter, Jaime Cooper; three great-granddaughters: Hannah Little, Hailey Little and Madison Stacy. One brother, Paul Cooper of California and one sister, Joyce Bowers of Florida, along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by five sisters: Betty (Mrs. J.W.) Myers, Dena (Mrs. Hoyt) Brown, Ruthalene (Mrs. Dale) Baker, Joan (Mrs. Ed) Zent and Julia Green.
Graveside service will be at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie, with Brian C. Waters officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Delaware County Veterans Organization at the conclusion of the service. Private visitation will be held by the family.
Memorials may be made in Bill’s memory to the charity/organization of the donor’s choice.
