BARBARA G. LEWIS HARTFORD CITY, IN Barbara G. Lewis, 73, passed away Monday, August 10, 2009 at Bridgewater Centre, Hartford City. She was born February 17, 1936 in Blackford County, the daughter of Ralph and Hazel (Melick) Townsend. She graduated from Roll High School in 1953 and was valedictorian of her class. She married Charles Lewis July 19, 1955 in Albany, Indiana. His death occurred November 17, 2003. Barbara had resided in Madison, Indiana for several years prior to moving to Muncie, then Hartford City. A homemaker, Barbara had worked for Central Indiana Gas Company in Marion and Muncie from 1955-1959. She then worked for Indiana & Kentucky Electric Storage and Chemical Departments from 1959-1971. She then gave quilting lessons at Marge’s Country Store and Piano, Madison. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and Tri Kappa Sorority, Madison, and had been a winner of the Blackford County Daughters of American Revolution Award. Survivors include two aunts, Ethel Smelser, Royerton and Norma Jean Melick, Hartford City, and cousins, Judith (Neil) Sodders, Hartford City, Phyllis Ann Melick, Millgrove, Pat (Larry) Randle, Muncie, Ron (Penny) Smelser, Shelbyville, Dollie Willman, Fort Wayne, and Rev. Donald (Shirley) Willman. A memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, August 15 at Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City. Cremation will take place with private interment in Jefferson Cemetery, Upland. .
