HARTFORD CITY, IN—
Arthur E. “Art” Carell, 89, passed away, Tuesday night, April 27, 2021 at Bridgewater Centre after an extended illness.
A native of New Castle, Indiana, he was born February 17, 1932, to Larry Carell and Myrtle (Cole). He was raised by his mother and step-father, Robert “Bob” Sills, graduating from high school in New Castle.
Art then served his country in the United States Army from 1950-1953. He married Betty J. Cansler in Hartford City on January 9, 1955, with whom he just celebrated sixty-six years of marriage.
Art retired from Bell Fiber, Marion, in 1994 after many years in the maintenance division.
In addition to being a great dad and grandpa, he enjoyed all sports, especially the Cubs, the Reds and the Chicago Bears. Art was fond of gambling and had traveled to Las Vegas and area casinos and also was in to lottery tickets. He was a long-time member of the American Legion Post #159, where he was a faithful participant with their color guard & firing squad with funerals and other local ceremonies. He belonged to the AmVets post #23 and was a former member of the Moose Lodge #225.
He leaves behind his wife, Betty; three daughters: Risa Teats, Robin Kabrich and Kelly Stone; one son, Mark; six grandchildren: Shawn Kabrich, Ryan Kabrich, Tasha Baker, Autumn Roach, Summer Crouse and Kendra Carell. Eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents & step-father, he is preceded in death by his son-in-law, Dave Kabrich, this past March 2nd; two sisters: Mary Ann Carell and Linda Sue Thatcher and two brothers: Allen “Gus” Carell and Bobby Mac Sills.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 3, 2021 in the Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City, with Pastor Steve DeLisle presiding. Burial follows at the Hartford City Cemetery with military rites rendered by the United States Army and the Delaware County Veterans Organization.
Visitation for friends and family will be from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
