Sharon J. (Fry) Garlinger

HARTFORD CITY, IN

Sharon Joyce (Fry) Garlinger, 86, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2024 at the University Nursing Center, Upland, Indiana.

Born in Portland, Indiana on February 13, 1937, she was one of five children of the late John Albert and Alice Marie (Sawyer) Fry.  She married William L. "Bill" Garlinger, on April 3, 1954 in Portland, Indiana and resided in Hartford City since 1961.

Sharon was a homemaker, raising her four children in Hartford City and even obtaining her GED from Blackford High School, in 1973, along with her daughter's graduation.  Sharon loved being outdoors; whether it was yard work and gardening or boating and camping.  Most of all, she loved being with her family and celebrating Christmas as a family.

She was devoted to her church, Calvary Christian Lighthouse Church, participating in many bible study groups, through the years.  She was active with the Elks Lodge #625, the AMVETS Auxiliary, Post #23 and the VFW Auxiliary of Geneva.

She will be sadly missed by her daughters:  Sharyll (Fred) Martin and Carol (Brian) Yates; one brother, Richard Fry; thirteen grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.  Additionally, she leaves behind: a son-in-law, Tim Criswell; sister-in-law Beverly Fry; brother-in-law:  Bob (Jan) Stevens, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, her husband Bill passed on June 4, 1995.  She also has a daughter, Karen Criswell; a son, Phillip D. Garlinger, two brothers:  Jack (wife Donna) Fry and Harry Fry; a sister, Sarah Stevens, a grandchild and a great-grandchild, have all preceded Sharon into eternal rest.

Services will be held at 6:00 P.M. Friday, February 16th in the Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City, with Pastor Troy Kaufman presiding.  Cremation will be held following.

Visitation for friends and family, will be from 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16th, until the start of the service at 6:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made in Sharon's name to the Elks Scholarship Fund or to the Calvary Christian Lighthouse Church.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be sent to Sharon's family at www.WatersFunerals.com
