HARTFORD CITY, IN—Sarah Louise Jones, 86, died on Sunday, June 7, 2026 at 8:02 a.m. in the University Nursing Center, in Upland.
Sarah Lou, the daughter of Roy & Mabel (Wheat) Tritle was born August 12, 1939, in Hartford City, Indiana. She graduated from Hartford City High School in 1957 and then married David Paul Jones.
Surviving are their two sons, Michael David (Tammy Newman) Jones and Thomas Paul (Patricia) Jones. Grandchildren, William David (Kirstin) Jones, Patricia Michelle Sprong, Teara Newman (Dustin Hammitt), Rachael Marie (Kelby) Burgess, Katherine Elaine (Nate) Baughey. Great-grandchildren, Isabella Grace Sprong, Charlotte Elizabeth Arlene Sprong, Lincoln David Ray Jones, Eleanor Joann Louise Jones, Zadie Lynn Skye Newman, Colt Lee Hammitt, Tripp Jaxon Banter, Emersyn Louise Banter, Wyatt Thomas Baughey and Avery Kate Baughey. Nephews, Stephen (Nancy) Pierce and Brian Jay (Mary) Ross. Niece, Laurie Ann (Steve) Coons as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Sara Lou was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Hartford City for more than 75 years. During that time she was church treasurer for some 25 years, sang in the choir for more than 20 years, served as deacon, an elder, president of the Women's Association and Sunday School teacher. She also belonged to Wit & Wisdom Club, Tri Kappa Sorority, and the Progressive Homemakers Club. Her hobbies included reading, sewing, knitting and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding Sarah Lou in death were her husband of 66 years, David Paul Jones; parents, Mabel and Roy Tritle; in-laws, Thelma and Paul Jones, grandson David Andrew Jones, uncle, Ed (Fern) Tritle, their daughter Phyllis (Tritle) Hollingshead, their daughter Jane Hollingshead, aunt, Mildred (Charles) Hoover and their sons, William, Robert & Jack Hoover.
Memorial Services, celebrating Sarah Lou's life will be at the First Presbyterian Church, 117 W. Franklin St., Hartford City on Saturday, June 20, 2026. Pastor Wes Rediger will officiate the service starting at 11:00 a.m.
Visitation will also be at the church on Saturday, June 20th, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
