Robert L. "Bob" Van Horn, 94, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 14, 2024 in the comforts of his own home.
Bob was born in Muncie, on December 12, 1929, one of five children of the late Lester and Mary (Watson) Van Horn. He was a 1948 graduate of Hartford City High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army, during the Korean War.
On June 3, 1951, Bob married Elizabeth E. "Liz" (Brose) in Chatfield, Ohio. They were married for forty-eight years, when Liz passed away, July 22, 1999.
Bob spent his entire forty-five-year career in the furniture business, faithfully serving his only employer, Hoover-Needler Furniture Company of Hartford City.
An avid fisherman and hunter, Bob belonged to the Blackford Anglers Club, the Blackford County Conservation Club and had been a Professional Bowler (Kegler), recording five or six perfect games.
He will be missed by his son, Eric (Jennifer) Van Horn of Hartford City; two grandsons: Zachary Dietzer (Brittany) and Dietz Slagle; two great-grandchildren: Mason Dietzer and Kincy Dietzer, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Liz, he is preceded into eternal rest by his daughter Deborah "Deb" Antrim; a brother, Donald Van Horn and three sisters: Doris Chipman, Jean Van Horn and Vera Denton.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 22nd, in the Hartford City Wesleyan Church, 1301 S. Walnut St., Hartford City, with Mother Abby Murphy and Pastor Ron Wilson presiding. Burial will immediately follow in the Hartford City Cemetery, with military rites rendered by the U.S. Army and the Delaware County Veterans Organization.
Visitation for friends and family will be on Thursday, March 21st, at the church, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Friday, prior to services at the church.
