HARTFORD CITY, IN—
The Reverend Jerald L. Shelby, 81, passed away peacefully, into the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ and God's Eternal Glory, Tuesday morning, August 10, 2021 in the comfort of his own home.
Rev. Jerald was born in Metropolis, IL on November 17, 1939, one of five children of Charles Aston and Helen Vernice (Collins) Shelby.
He spent twenty-seven years in the pulpit and serving the Lord, coming to Hartford City's Apostolic Tabernacle in 2002.
Almost fifty years of marriage would have been celebrated next month, as he took as his bride, Betty C. (Dame) Shelby on September 17, 1971 in Anderson, Indiana.
In addition to the most loving and supportive wife of a clergyman, Betty, he leaves behind three children locally, Kathy (Bryan) Lewis and Evelyn (Miguel) Bazan, Sr., all of Marion and Jerald L. Shelby, Jr. of Gas City. Two daughters out-of-State: Lisa Barker and Laura (Dee) Alexander. Two brothers: Bishop Mitchell L. (Carol) Shelby and Charles (Brenda) Shelby. Two sisters: Glenda (Robert) Prox and Sheila (George) Miller. Grandchildren: Miguel (Brianna) Bazan, Jr., Justin Bastin, Steffani Shelby, Taylor "TJ" Shelby, Cheyenne Shelby, Francisco Vega, Stephanie Vega, Christa Rodriguez, Jason Vega, Josh Bostick, Amy Vega, Billy Andrews, Brennen Shelby, Austin Shelby, Brant Shelby, Adam Sutti and Ashley Sutti. Great-grandchildren: Hannah Bastin and Laila Bazan, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A son, Tracy Shelby precedes him in death.
Homegoing Services, Praising Our Lord for the life of The Rev. Jerald L. Shelby will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, August 14, 2021 at the Bethel Worship Center, 1715 E. 38th St., Marion, Indiana, with his brother, Bishop Mitchell L. Shelby officiating. Burial immediately follows at Eaton Union Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be the same day prior to the service, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
