HARTFORD CITY, IN—
James D. Bennett, 76, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, August 29, 2024, at his home of natural causes.
Born in Muncie, on August 1, 1948, he was the son of Charles and Loretta (Barenbrugge) Bennett and graduated from Dunkirk High School, class of 1966.
Jim served his country in the U. S. Army, during the Vietnam conflict.
He married Carolyn Sue Townsend on August 5, 1967 and had worked in glass production for Ball Brothers, Kerr Glass (now Ardaugh), retiring when the company was under Saint-Gobain Glass ownership.
Jim enjoyed being with his grandkids more than anything. He faithfully attended the grandkids' sporting events. An avid fisherman & hunter, Jim was especially fond of mushroom hunting, including trips to Michigan, for the mushroom hunt.
He was raised Catholic and had belonged to the Dunkirk American Legion and the Loyal Order of Moose.
He leaves behind his wife, Carolyn Sue (Townsend); daughters, Tonia (Rob) Bomar and Michelle (Bryan) Ridgway; son Kyle (Breanne) Bennett. Eight grandchildren: Amanda (Matt) Holloway, Hannah (Brady) Walsh, Allura (Trevor) Sanders, Noah Ridgway, Grant Ridgway, Lucas (Sydney) Gore, Addison Bennett and Hayden Bennett. Seven great-grandchildren: Adalyn, Olivia, Lindy, Wilder, Ariah, Amelia and Everett. One brother, Edward Charles Bennett and one sister, Elizabeth Staton.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Jon Bennett; grandson Tanner Bennett and a brother Christopher Bennett.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024 in the Waters Funeral Home, Hartford City, with Father Kevin Hurley presiding. Burial follows at Gardens of Memory, Muncie, with military rites rendered by the U.S. Army and the Delaware County Veterans Organization
Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3rd and an hour prior to services Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions, instead of flowers, may be made to the City of Marion Police K9 Fund 301 S. Branson St., Marion, IN 46952.
