Obituary

EATON, IN-

James Dale Banter, 80, former Hartford City resident, passed away at his home in Eaton, unexpectedly Friday evening, February 10, 2023 of natural causes.

Born in Van Buren, Indiana on June 16, 1942, he attended schools there and was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War, receiving the Vietnam Service Medal w/ two Bronze Stars.

He married Diana L. (Litteral) on November 20, 1981.  They celebrated over thirty-five years of marriage, prior to her passing, on January 1, 2017.

He retired from Dana Corporation after thirty-two years of employment.

Jim was a long-time member of the Apostolic Tabernacle, in Hartford City, where he served as Deacon, Elder and Head Usher.  In recent years, he attended Victory Temple in Muncie.  Jim was most proud of the head usher's position.

Jim was always there in that usher's position, as the 'first shepherd' to receive visitors to his church.  He was present for almost every funeral, serving as that "extra help" for the funeral homes having services in his church.

He leaves his son, Tony (Laura) Banter and daughter, Sarah (Tim) Shelford, all of Hartford City; five grandchildren:  Brandon Banter, Jordan Banter, Ashley Brumback, Cody Alexander and Ciara Harden; five great-grandchildren:  Austin Brumback, Pacey Brumback, Foster Brumback, Lillian Cox and Navy Alexander.  Three half-brothers, Lonnie Littrell, Marvin Littrell and Daryl Littrell.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his wife: his father Archie "Arch" Littrell; his mother and step-father Sarah E. Banter and Lawrence Welch and a half-sister, Mary Littrell.

Funeral service will be at 12:00 noon Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023 in the Apostolic Tabernacle, 1318 S. Jefferson St., Hartford City, with Pastor Rick Bowen presiding and Rev. Clyde Wallace assisting.

Burial, with military rites, by the U.S. Army and the Delaware County Veterans Organization, follows at the Van Buren Masonic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:00 -7:00 P.M. Friday, at Waters Funeral Home in Hartford City and at the church on Saturday, from 11a.m. – 12 noon.
