Helen E. Twibell, 92, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Otterbein Senior Life Community in Franklin, Indiana.

Helen was born on June 28, 1926 in Hartford City, Indiana to Edgar and Ethel (Woodring) Wilson. She was a 1944 graduate of Hartford City High School and would go on to earn her Masters Degree from Ball State Teachers College.

On May 28, 1949 she married Lewis W. Twibell and together they would raise their three children in Blackford County.

Helen worked as an elementary school teacher for 36 years, starting at Licking Township Elementary and finishing her career at William Reed Elementary.

She was a long-time member of the Mt. Carmel Methodist Church, where she played the piano and organ, and was a member of the Blackford County Homemakers Club. Helen volunteered at the Blackford County Hospital, wrote monthly articles for Audubon and was an avid birdwatcher.

She is survived by her children: Elaine Saylor (Ovie), Lewis Twibell Jr. (Vicki), and Carol Tarr, nine grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many, many friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lewis Twibell Sr., two sisters, Ruth Flatter-Oswalt and Virginia Langdon, and a son-in-law: Leslie Tarr.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City, with Pastor Ron Johnson and Pastor John Helton officiating. Burial will follow at Eaton Union Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be at the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 22nd and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday prior to services.

Memorials may be made in her name to Mt. Carmel Methodist Church c/o Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City, IN 47348.
