Harriet A. Brinkerhoff, 92, passed away December 5, 2018 in IU Health Blackford Hospital.

Harriet was born August 3, 1926 in Needham Heights, MA to Harry A. and Amy V. (Hatfield) Gates. She graduated from Needham High School in 1944 and then completed her bachelor's degree at Barrington College, Rhode Island.

She married her husband of 59 years, Robert S. Brinkerhoff, on June 16, 1956 in Needham, MA.

Harriet loved to work with children, most often as a Sunday school teacher. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for various employers throughout her life including her husband.

She loved her Lord Jesus and was a member most recently of the First Presbyterian Church in Hartford City, IN where she developed some excellent friendships.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, Rev. Ronald Gates and Laurence Gates and a sister, Beebe Gates.

Survivors include her sister, Mary Turkington; children, Carol (husband, Brian) Helmick and Stephen (wife, Joanne) Brinkerhoff; grandchildren, Michael Keenan, Kristen (husband, KJ) Javed, Adrian, Lucas, Caleb, Joshua, Jessica and Malichi Brinkerhoff; great-grandchildren, Kaylie and Kaiden Javed.

A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Harriet A. Brinkerhoff will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church, 117 W. Franklin St., Hartford City. Rev. Susan Findley will be officiating.
