Coilla Sue Van Horn

HARTFORD CITY, IN

Coilla Sue Van Horn, 82, died Monday morning, August 9, 2021 at Morrison Woods Health Campus in Muncie, after an extended illness.

Sue was born July 24, 1939 in Winchester, Indiana the oldest of three daughters of Isaac Kenneth and Maxine Lucille (Shaw) Garringer.  She was a 1957 graduate of Ridgeville High School and married Donald Edward Van Horn on Dec. 13, 1959 in Ridgeville.  He precedes her in death on November 24, 1992.

Sue was a homemaker and raised five children. She was an Instructional Assistant at William Reed and Southside Elementary schools for many years.  She also took tickets/worked admission gates at Blackford High School sporting events.  She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and tatting, winning Grand Champion honors at the Indiana State Fair in 2014, at the age of 75, with a doll she crocheted.

Sue also belonged to Women of Worth, in Hartford City and was involved with a local Euchre group for over fifty years, with the same ladies and rotating homes for hosting this Euchre club.

Surviving are three sons:  Mark (Toni) of Noblesville; David (Barbara) of Redkey and Michael (Annie) of Cowan; two daughters:  Robin Stump, Westfield and Lori (Erik) Smith of Cowan.  Grandchildren:  Brandon Van Horn, Kyle Van Horn, Abigail Stump, Sophia Smith, Isaac Van Horn, Grace Van Horn, Lauren Smith, Barron Smith, Harlow Smith and "extra grandchildren" Caydence Louck, Presley Louck and Bella Louck.  Also surviving are two sisters:  Kay Taylor of Hartford City and Pat Erp of Lebanon.

In addition to her parents and husband, her step-mother, Cynthia Benson Garringer, also precedes her in death.

Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 13, 2021 in the Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City, with Pastor Joe Hines presiding.  Burial follows at Gardens of Memory, Muncie.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., until services on Friday, at the funeral home.
