Agnes E. Bowen, 91, passed away Tuesday afternoon, December 25, 2018, at her home.
She was born on July 15, 1927, in Alexandria, Indiana, to George A. and Helen M. (Feller) Schott, spending her formative years in Alexandria, graduating from Alexandria High School in 1946 and marrying Wilbur F. Bowen in Alexandria on September 25,1954.
A resident of Hartford City for sixty-five years, Agnes was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Altar Rosary Society, Our Lady of Good Council and the Third Order of St. Francis.
Mrs. Bowen was well known for her service to St. John Riedman Memorial School in the cafeteria for thirty-two years, as well as the New-To-You Thrift Shop.
Survivors include her children: Julia & Mark McCleary, Patricia & Rusty Beedle, Mary Bowen, Jeffrey & Gayle Bowen, Teresa & Terry Maddox and Joseph Bowen; Grandchildren: Anna & James Nelson, Patrick & Jessica McCleary, Andrew Beedle & girlfriend, Liz Caldwell, Daniel Beedle and fianceé Cam Kawell, Abigail Bowen, Emily Bowen and fiancé Chris Demaree, Matthew Bowen, Margaret & John Mattheessen and Michael Maddox. Two great-grandchildren, Michelle Mattheessen and Wes McCleary, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by Wilbur on June 30, 2009; five sisters: Florence Crist, Sr. Mary Bernice Schott, Dorothy Welborn, Loretta Greenlee and Helen "Todd" Janowski; also, five brothers: Harold, George, Elmer, Ray "Pete" and Rev. Fr. Victor Schott.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 29, 2018 in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 209 S. Spring St. Hartford City with Father Dave Newton as celebrant. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery.
A Christian Wake service will begin at 4:00 p.m. Friday, December 28th in Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St. Hartford City, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Additional visitation will also be from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the building fund of St. John's Catholic Church or the Indiana Right to Life.
